Mixed Media Life
I have been an artist as long as I can remember. I have always loved color and as a small child I memorized the colors in my 64 color Crayon Box. As soon as I learned to read I fell in love with poetry and fiction.
Now as a mixed media artist I often combine my love of color with my love of the written word in my collages and books. The more I create art the more I see the world in terms of art...the dark of a bird’s wing against the sky, the pale pattern of an unfurling fern or the color of water at dusk can inspire a work of art.
As a unrepentant collector (the packrat must be my totem animal!) I also love to create assemblage. I love the idea of re-using a discarded piece of material that at one time held a important use...that cog that keep the wheels turning or that bolt that keep it all together, now thrown aside and forgotten. I love the odd juxtaposition of found materials...bone and metal maybe a doll part...strange bed fellows now put together to make a piece of art that often has a startling resonance of truth.
That child who loved color and words still lives in me and together we create our own world of art.
